Ergonomic Stools

Ergonomic Stool Seating Selection

Ergonomic stools are designed to help the user sit correctly, encouraging an upright posture whilst allowing continual movement and freedom of activity.  The term ‘Active Sitting’ accurately describes this movement, keeping the body and muscles active, encouraging blood flow, alertness and concentration.

An ergonomic stool will typically position the user with the legs sloping down towards the knees and this promotes the natural curve in the lumbar area of the spine.  Correct alignment of the spine ensures a balanced posture that reduces the pressure on the intervertebral discs.  Careful thought has been given to seat structure and seat design on an ergonomic stool to give even weight distribution .....Read more.

.....and to keep the pelvis fully supported – not folded inwards, as can occur with some concave seats on office chairs.

Movement with an ergonomic stool is achieved in a variety of ways but often simple and effective, as with the Varier Move Stool.  A graded footbase will permit movement backwards and forwards, ensuring that the stool does the moving and the back avoids unnecessary bending and twisting.  The Swopper Stool articulates from the base of the seat stem, leaning forwards but keeping the back itself aligned with the correct posture.

Combined with variable height settings, the ergonomic stool offers a huge range of sitting positions and works well with a height adjustable desk to vary position and posture throughout the day.  And if space is limited at home or work, then ergonomic stools are compact, easy to move around and immense fun to use.

If you discover the comfort of the ergonomic stool then you should also investigate kneeling chairs which share a very similar body posture and position......Close.
