Electric Height Adjustable Desks
Electric Sit - Stand Height Adjustable Desks
Electric height adjustable desks are commonly referred to as Sit - Stand desks as they encourage the user to work in both a sitting and standing position. Sitting in an office chair, even a good ergonomic chair for long periods can limit the activity and freedom of movement of the individual. The human body does not operate efficiently when its movement becomes restricted and back pain sufferers are often told to keep active and vary their sitting position.
Varying the height of a sit stand desk throughout the day, provides an alternative to the static sitting posture. Back and leg muscles remain active, circulation is improved and joints keep flexible. A standing position also reduces the downward pressure from gravity on the spinal discs compared to normal sitting.
Sit Stand desks can assist in breaking the pattern of poor posture and incorrect workstation practices .....Read more.
.....introducing a new approach to the work environment. Regular users of height adjustable, sit stand desks have also recorded an improvement in alertness, vitality and concentration.
Guide to Height Adjustable Desk selection
There are a few criteria that must be considered carefully when choosing your ideal height adjustable desk.
- Desktop load capacity - for light loads, an 80 kg capacity will be more than adequate. For heavier loading, such as double or multi monitor arrays then one should opt for a desk with a capacity of at least 125kg. Where complete rigidity is required, for example when using microscopes then choose the highest load rating of 150kg - 200kg. Take account of the desktop size required - the larger the top then more stability is needed. Always allow a good margin over and above your estimated load capacity. A popular entry level model with 80kg load would be the Conset 501-17 with rear mounted wheels for easy moving. Save further on your budget with the Conset 501-25 which has the same loading but a narrower height range which starts with a minimum of 70cm height.
- Range of height adjustment - ensure that you choose both the correct minimum and maximum desktop heights required. A short adult when seated may need a height of 65cm but if used for children, then the height would need to be lower. If you need to seek a low desktop height for use with children then the Conset 501-27 will operate down to a height of 56cms.
- Desktop size and shape - if space is limited then a top with a shorter depth of 60cms may be adequate. An L shaped desk requires a more stable platform and normally 3 pillars. The Conset 501-11 L shaped desk is the ideal model though the Conset 501-29 is more than capable at a lighter load capacity of 125kgs.
